2002scape
"A lot of the originally planned aspects of RS are now complete, so you might well be wondering what we are now working on, and how we intend to keep improving the game, other than just adding more quests." - Andrew Gower, 11 June 2002
Fletch arrows, brew potions, and duel your way to heroism.
Many of the changes made to RS Classic in late 2002 to 2003 are controversial or poorly balanced, put together by a development team that was in the middle of a game engine re-write to make RS2. These include god spells, Tutorial Island, the Agility skill, and the Fatigue system, as well as mechanics that broke entire skills such as prototype dart fletching and gnome flax. 2002scape is a replica of the game as it was before development on RS2 was in full swing, without these controversial features.
2002scape is based on the RSC Sundae code base, which uses only data sources and packet captures from the original server. It's the most accurate replica of RSC ever made, and the only one that accurately models NPC behaviour.
It contains no modifications to the original content. However, the following extra features are available in 2002scape:
- Selectable original or 4x faster XP rate.
- Official self-sufficient ("ironman") and no-banking ("ultimate ironman") modes.
- Extra hiscores for e.g. crystal chest, dragon kills.
